Our History

LS Quarter Horses was born out of a deep love for horses, a passion passed down from father to son, and one that Lionel Salinas hopes to pass on to his children for generations to come. What started with a single mare named Muñeca, has grown into a dedicated breeding and training program specializing in reining bloodlines.

In 1999, when Lionel's father moved his family from Hollister to Los Banos, California, the first thing he built wasn’t a house — it was horse stables. Every structure at our ranch was built by his own hands, with the help of our family, reflecting his lifelong dedication to horses.

His love for horses began in his childhood in Atolinga, Zacatecas, Mexico. His grandfather gifted him a donkey and its foal, which he later traded for a young filly. However, this decision led to his father expelling him from their ranch, forbidding him from keeping the horse inside. Undeterred, he cared for it in the callejón, bringing it food and water. One night, he made a promise to himself: one day, he would own his own ranch, filled with horses of all colors.

Years later, that dream became a reality. He started with one horse and expanded, buying and selling yearlings, focusing on their color and conformation. As his passion for horses grew, he built a lienzo charro on our land, where we competed in Charrería for many years under the name Rancho 152, the official name of our ranch.

Now, Lionel carries that legacy forward — not just by breeding for color, but by refining the bloodlines and ensuring our horses are trained and competitive in reining. Our focus is on producing high-caliber Quarter Horses, preparing them with professional training, and competing in futurities and tournaments in Mexico.

This journey isn’t just about horses; it’s about a dream that started generations ago and still continues today.
